Oleg Kuchinskiy

Mountain guide, expedition organiser

18 years experience250+ ascents

About me

I've spent most of my professional life in the mountains and the outdoors, helping build a culture of thoughtful travel.

I have more than 250 ascents behind me, along with mountain projects in the Caucasus, the Altai, the Pamirs, the Tien Shan and the Himalayas. I specialise in high-altitude and technical mountaineering, trekking, rock climbing and expeditions.

My work goes beyond guiding groups in the mountains. Since 2008, I've been putting entire expeditions together: planning routes, handling logistics, preparing participants, organising acclimatisation, managing the technical side and leading the group in the mountains.

Where I work

• Russia: the Caucasus, the Altai and other mountain regions

• Central Asia: the Pamirs, the Fann Mountains and the Tien Shan

• The Himalayas: Nepal and the region's high mountains

• Africa: Kilimanjaro

• Southeast Asia: Thailand's rock climbing and mountain areas

Key ascents and projects

• Lenin Peak — 7,134 m

• Elbrus — 5,642 m

• Climbs and expeditions in the Altai (Aktru and Belukha)

• Technical routes and climbing camps in the Fann Mountains (Energiya — 5,120 m, Chapdara — 5,049 m, Zamok — 5,070 m, and others)

• Expeditions in the Pamirs and the Tien Shan

• Organising high-altitude climbs and treks in the Himalayas

• Rock climbing and multi-pitch climbing trips in Thailand

• Expeditions on Kilimanjaro

My approach

Safety first.

In the mountains, I rely on sound preparation, gradual acclimatisation, technical skills and teamwork. My job is to do more than take someone to a summit: I want to teach them to understand the mountains, make decisions and become more independent.

Every expedition I organise is built around three principles:

• Preparation.

• Safety.

• Results.

Why climb with me

My hands-on experience lets me look at an expedition both as a climber and as the person responsible for leading it: spotting risks ahead of time, understanding the route and making decisions when the outcome really depends on them.

I work with experienced mountaineers and with people who are just starting out in the high mountains.

My aim is to show people the mountains as they really are, and for them to leave an expedition wanting to return.
